Marylou Ward with Frank and their daughters in front of a fountain

The best way to achieve your dreams in life is by never giving up when you know what you want and that is exactly what Marylou Ward and Frank Ward did. Despite Marylou being told she would never have children, she and her husband Frank continued trying for 10 years, and she is now a proud mother to her two daughters Bridget and Shannon Ward.

Marylou Ward was born on Sept. 5, 1961, in Far Rockaway, New York to her parents John and Marylou McGlone, along with her siblings Dawn and Lori. When Lori passed away in 2015, Marylou Ward was there for her children just as she is always there for those in her life who need her.

“When her sister passed, she left three boys behind: Jesse, Jake and John. They basically became our sons,” said Frank. “She loves and cares for them like they were ours.”

She also has a great relationship with her nephews John and Chris. Frank feels that although not being able to have kids for so long was difficult, there was a blessing in disguise because they got to become so close with their nephews before having kids of their own.

Now that Marylou does have Bridget and Shannon, her two daughters couldn’t be more grateful to have her as their mom.

“I know my mom will always be there for me no matter what. If I ever need anything my mom is always there for me,” said Bridget. “My mom has always supported me with all the choices I have made. Even when I would make mistakes my mom was always there for me and would help me through any situation. Most of all, she’s been my best friend through it all.”

Bridget also loves how her mom can make her feel better when she’s sad and knows how to put a smile on her face. She admires her mother’s generosity, compassion, love, optimism, charisma, courage, strength and intuitiveness.

Shannon is also grateful for her mother’s wonderful qualities, which she deeply appreciates.

“My mom means so much to me. She’s always been there for me, and she loves and supports me so much,” said Shannon. “I look to her as a role model and hope to be like her in the future.”

Shannon also loves how kind, caring and loving her mother is.

“She’s very trustworthy and I can tell her anything. I love how she’s so welcoming and hospitable to everyone,” said Shannon. “She’s funny, positive and I admire her so much.”

Her husband Frank also admires many qualities that this indelible woman possesses, including how she puts her family before everything and loves being a great mother who is caring and understanding toward her kids. He admires many of her personal qualities that extend outside the family as well.

Frank admires her work ethic, her honesty, the way she carries herself, how she doesn’t judge people, and how she loves to laugh and can laugh at herself. He also admires how she is a drama-free person who doesn’t say anything bad about anyone and is a very welcoming person willing to help anyone.

Marylou still finds time to keep active with her joy of walking, running, aerobics and playing with their dogs Peyton and Harley or their cat Reid. In her spare time, she enjoys floating in the pool, watching reruns of Roseanne and Everybody Loves Raymond, and tending to her plants.

She even had a career as a Human Resources Manager for Right Associate before her favorite career began: being a mom. She has now gone back to work as an Office Manager at Digital Bridge, but still finds time to teach her family plenty of valuable life lessons.

“My mom always opened her heart to everyone that would come around,” said Bridget. “My mom taught me to always be nice and put love into whatever I do. Most importantly my mom taught me to be a strong, independent girl who loves unconditionally by leading as an example.”

“She’s taught us to be kind, caring, independent and loving,” said Shannon. “I always describe her as the best host because she always goes out of her way to make everyone feel welcomed and at home.”

“My wife has taught me to not expect people to always do the right things so that way I’m never let down by other people’s actions,” said Frank. “Her most famous quote is to ‘not let people change who you are.’”

It’s a good thing that Marylou and Frank continued trying to have kids so they could defy the odds and the kids could be so proud to have Marylou as their mother on this Mother’s Day.
