Just like our ranking of the days of the week, the ranking of the months of the year is pretty subjective. There are many factors that go into everyone’s rankings, so everyone who would try to do this might have a different list… and that’s okay!
12. February – February is one of those weird months. Yes, you have Valentine’s Day (which might be a good or bad day in your eyes) and the Super Bowl, but other than that it is a short month with weird weather patterns. February also kind of feels like a dead month where it is hard to plan things or get anything done, therefore it is at the bottom of our rankings.
11. January – January is like Monday. It is the start to the year, and if you get the year started off on the right foot, then that typically means the rest of the year will turn out great. However, we put too much pressure on needing to stick to our New Year’s resolutions. Plus, after New Year’s Day, there’s just not much to look forward to in January, unless you or someone you know is celebrating a birthday.
10. September – September is another one of those really weird times of year, especially for people going to school. It is the first full month of school for people, and outside of the occasional wedding, the only thing to do is watch football and baseball in September… not that that is a horrible thing.
9. March – Once you hit March, you get to set your clocks forward to help begin lengthening your days. Not only that, but this is a month where you start really looking forward to getting to do things. Springtime will soon be springing, and you can really start planning out and looking forward to your summer.
8. October – October tends to be a beautiful month, albeit a colder month. It is another month where there is not a whole lot going on (other than fall weddings and Halloween), but it is also not a horrible month. There are lots of big holidays coming up in the ensuing months after October, plus football season is in full swing at this point… oh yeah, and baseball playoffs and hockey and basketball seasons all kick off.
7. April – If you are in school, April is a month full of anticipation. In college, it means you are right at the end of the school year, and in K-12, it tends to be the last month before all the fun activities begin. Outside of being a school age student, April tends to bring a lot of flowers, but you know what that means… May flowers!
6. June – June is a great month for everyone. It is really considered a summer month where people start going on vacations and planning get togethers. It is also the beginning of potential heatwaves for the summer, so you really have to brace yourself for that.
5. May – From graduations to flowers growing to great weather, there are not many negatives when it comes to May. It is not too hot of a month, plus you get to start enjoying some time off if you were in college. At the same time, if you just graduated, it does mean you might be starting your career, or finding a way to delay the start to it.
4. November – Thanksgiving and Black Friday are some great times in November. Not only that, but the weather is tempered and it is the last month you really get to enjoy before it is pitch black by 5 in the afternoon. Overall, it is a very underrated month.
3. August – Yes, August means back to school, but it is a very enjoyable month nonetheless. The heat is starting to die down and you are getting in your last hoorahs during the dog days of summer. It is a month filled with last minute activities before the fun dies down, so the good times keep on rolling.
2. December – Yes, there is this fact that it gets dark by 4 pm. However, it is a great holiday month no matter what religion (or lack thereof) you may be part of, plus it is a very laid back month. Things are not super busy (outside of retail stores for Christmas), so families tend to spend a lot more time together during December.
1. July – July is hot, I’ll give you that. But, it is a great month for vacationing, swimming and just enjoying some well-deserved time off. There is nothing that really beats putting your feet in the sand and swimming in the ocean… At least that’s my opinion.
The months of the year are very difficult to rank, and that is not only because there are 12 of them. They are difficult to rank because there are so many factors that go into them, and people’s viewpoints and mindsets might be different in certain months versus others. That said, this is my ranking of the months of the year.
