“My mom is my heartbeat, my number one fan, my protector, and was my first drill Sergeant. She’s my ear when I need someone to listen, but also keeps me grounded when I’m wrong. She had to play the role of mom and dad. She taught me how to throw and catch, and fix all kinds of things around the house. She raised me to be the man in which she wishes she had. Without her, I would be lost.”
Brandon Scott speaks so highly of his mother, Teresa Johnson, and rightfully so. She is a mama bear through and through, and she is everything he could have asked for in a mother. She is strong, independent and loving, and she treats everyone with kindness.
Growing up in the era she grew up in, Teresa’s life was anything but easy. But luckily for her, she had two strong, loving, devoted parents who loved each other and loved their daughter, and that unconditional love really rubbed off on Teresa. She is now a loving mother (and grandmother) in her own right, and a lot of that has to do with Gamps and Ganny.
“She’s our rock,” Brandon said. “I won’t say like any mom. She’s that mom who made it clear when we were born: ‘I ain’t your friend, but I am your mom; your biggest confidante; your cheerleader.’ I had my mom to myself for 10 years. Money was short, but she made it happen.”
Gamps and Ganny set the tone for Teresa, but she really took what she learned and ran with it. She has such a wonderful personality, and who she is today has a lot to do with her. She is a dedicated individual with a lot of compassion in her heart, and Brandon and his sister Chandler are super lucky.
So are Brandon’s son Liam and Chandler’s daughter Kayla. They are lucky to have such a wonderful grandmother who has stepped into that role with such ease… and a little bit of a change in heart according to Brandon, but in the best way possible.
“Those two things are the most spoiled things ever,” he said. “She turned into the grandparent we never saw as a mother. Letting them get away with stuff. But to her, that’s the legacy. She makes sure they know they are the legacy. She pours into them so much.”
Teresa might spoil her grandkids a lot, but she also instills a lot of important things into them. Known as Sweetie to them (since they couldn’t say Sweet Pea when they were younger), Teresa is showing Liam and Kayla how to survive as well as how to be “good poets of society.” They learn a lot from her, and boy Brandon and Chandler are grateful for the grandmother their mother has become.
Teresa is all about legacy, and she is certainly leaving one. Not only in the way she raised her kids and is there for her grandkids, but also in the way she never lets someone go without. She is such a selfless individual and a great friend, and that is much appreciated.
She is just amazing, and the more you get to know about her life, the more in awe you become.
“She’s been in the garment industry for 40 years,” Brandon said. “She made clothes for celebrities like Kirk Franklin and helped with designs for the Dallas Maverick jerseys.”
As if her amazingness could get any better…
Teresa Johnson is just a super special individual, and she deserves to be celebrated and honored each and every day.
