Born in the great state of Kentucky back in 1938, Alice Metcalfe is celebrating her 85th birthday, and her three children, 11 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren all feel beyond blessed to call Alice their Granny.
“Our mother is the most inspiring person we know,” her three children (Dede, Jackie and Todd) said. “She has a servant’s heart, and there is not a lazy bone in her body. She is special to us for her deep affection for our dad and for instilling in her children an enduring love for Jesus.”
Alice will tell you she got her loving personality from her mother – whom she just so happened to share a birthday with – but her kids will tell you Alice has taken her love up a notch. The way she cares for her family and her friends shows through Alice’s selflessness and her service to others.
More than that, she is a believer in Christ, and she allows the Lord’s example to guide her in her every step. She is a humble servant in love with Jesus Christ.
She is also the most beautiful person inside and out. She goes out of her way to make sure everyone around her is comfortable and well-fed. Her career as an X-ray technician displayed her care for others and her contribution to her family.
Her children even said, “She is the CEO!”
Alice has made a world of memories throughout the years. From showing off her expert water-skiing skills at Kentucky Lake to playing overnight bridge with Hoppy and Herma Gray to compassionately nursing her children back to health, Alice is bound for greatness.
She is the best cook in the world. Dede, Jackie and Todd would fight over who got the last dumpling. Every last bite was savored. Every Sunday during church, she would cook chuck roast with all the trimmings.
She also keeps her house so clean that eating off her floors is a viable option.
Alice is honored by her family because she is a trusted confidant and friend. She is there for her family through thick and thin and has a true heart of gold for everyone.
Her children attest, “She is our dearest, best and sweetest friend. Her attention to every detail of our lives has made us who we are today. She has a listening ear without making judgements.”
Alice has a lot to be proud of, and her family has a lot to be thankful for. The Metcalfe family tree cannot wait to celebrate many more birthdays with their beloved Granny.
She was featured on The Today Show at 80. And now she has been spotlighted on the front page at 85. Only time will tell what good fortune 90 will bring Mrs. Alice Metcalfe.
But, for now, her family and friends are remaining focused on celebrating this amazing woman’s 85th birthday.
“We are indebted to you forever. You are our superhero!”
