color the world orange day

It is another day in the fight against CRPS (Color The World Orange Day)

Post by Xiaotong Meng

November 7, 2022

The first Monday of November is Color the World Orange Day, falling on November 7 this year.

This meaningful day intends to educate the public about misunderstood and rare illnesses, and give support to those who are affected by Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS), a malfunction in the central nervous system.

Over the years, many medical specialists have been working on finding a treatment for this condition, however, there is currently no cure for this syndrome. The only thing a doctor could do is to apply different methods to relieve the pain from a patient.

As a result, we should make the most of today to donate and raise funds in helping people who possess CRPS. It is also a good chance to raise awareness about this disorder and call for actions.

It’s Election Day

Happy Election Day!

Whether you are Republican, Democrat, Libertarian or a part of any other political party, you have the right to get out and vote today. Express the freedom to vote for whoever you believe are the right fits, and make sure you let anyone who is on the fence about voting know why it is important to vote.

The right to vote is what separates a democracy from a dictatorship, and without expressing that right to vote these things could eventually change.

And make sure you don’t let political disagreements ruin your friendships, because losing a friend over a disagreement is not worth it, no matter how wrong you feel they are in their views.

Happy voting!

Marine Corps

Happy birthday U.S. Marine Corps!

Post by Xiaotong Meng

November 10, 2022

The United States Marines have played significant roles in almost every U.S. battle. On Nov 10, 1921, the U.S. government declared that day became the birthday of the Marine Corps.

Back to November 10, 1775, a new corps was created after the introduction of the Continental Marine Act, which aimed to provide additional security for the Continental Navy.

In 1798, the legislation was passed by the Congress to separate the U.S. Navy and set up its own department. Later in the same year, the U.S. Marines divided their duties into different branches.

The Marine Corps was formed on July 11, 1798, but it was officially identified in 1921.

Most of us have never fought in a war or joined the military, but we can still show our respect and appreciation to the Marine Corps in honor of their hard work defending the country to make us safe.

If you know a friend or family member who is currently or has been part of the Marine, do not hesitate to reach out and express your gratitude to them.

Stay cool and eat an ice cream sundae (National Sundae Day)

Post by Xiaotong Meng

November 11, 2022

Today, November 11, is the National Sundae Day to satisfy your sweet tooth. You can visit an ice cream shop or make one at home of your favorite flavor to treat yourself.

While we enjoy a delicious sundae, do you know who invented this dessert?

Surprisingly, there are three different versions ranked from earliest to most recent. The first story is about a man named George Hallauer in Two Rivers, Wisconsin, putting a dish of ice cream with chocolate sauce on top of soda, which created ice cream sundae in 1881.

The second statement tells of an Illinois druggist Mr. Sonntag used his last name to call a new dish in 1890. Since Sonntag means Sunday in German, then the name was spelled from Sunday to sundae.

The last edition is about Chester Platt, the co-founder of pharmacy, placing cherry syrup and candied cherries on top of ice cream on April 3, 1892, which he called “Cherry Sunday”. Later in May, Platt and John M. Scott also started to provide “Strawberry Sunday” and “Chocolate Sunday”.

Regardless of how ice cream sundae was produced, it has become a popular sweet treat for many people.
