When she was working at the hospital, Chelsie Gawel was (and still is) the only one who had ever been nominated for the Nurse of the Year Award… and she won it. She was also their only ever nominee for the Daisy Award… and she won that. But in the midst of winning these awards, Chelsie consistently reminded those around her that it is not about any of the accolades.
“Chelsie is the ultimate caregiver,” her husband Chad said. “She is super concerned about what other people are going through. Almost to a fault, she puts other people’s problems on her shoulders; getting almost overinvested in other people’s problems.”
Chad said one example of this was when the lady in front of them at the AC/DC concert collapsed. Chelsie took 30 minutes out of her day to help out a total stranger because that is just the overabundantly compassionate individual she is. Chelsie will step in at a moment’s notice to help anyone.
She is also the kind of wife Chad has always dreamed of having. She is his everything and the one person he cannot live without, and he is super grateful to have brought his baby girl into this world with his wonderful better half.
“She’s my best friend,” Chad said. “She’s an amazing mother. She sacrificed a lot for us. She bends over backwards for Evie. She takes care of others well before anybody else.”
As a mother, there is no one better than Chelsie. Albeit, she may spoil Evie a little more than Chad wishes she would, but it is all because Chelsie has their daughter’s best interest at heart at all times.
And when you ask Chelsie’s grandmother, Georgina, she will tell you she was always cut out to be a mom. The way she is there for Evie at all times comes as absolutely no surprise.
“She will drop anything she is doing to be with her daughter,” Georgina said. “She’ll spend time outside with her. She is the best mom around. She is doing a great job as a mother.”
As a mom, Chelsie is also focused on instilling a lot of important values into Evie. From kindness and respect to manners, Evie is learning all of the ways to treat people right. Chad has also learned how best to treat the people around him as well, and that is all thanks to his amazing wife.
“She’s definitely helped me to be more considerate of other people,” Chad said. “I’ve learned to take others into account in my everyday decisions. I also now put her and Evie as the most important things. She helps me in controlling my temper too. She is the calm, collective one. She’s talked me off a few ledges in terms of going off the handle about people.”
In a world full of craziness, Chelsie brings a sea of calmness wherever she goes. She keeps the peace and she also remains aware of her surroundings.
On top of that, Chelsie gives people the benefit of the doubt. She shows people love and she puts people first in all situations.
“She has the same friends that she had in high school,” Georgina said. “Chad came along and they have been friends with all these people all these years. Now they have their own families and the families are close. She is very accepting of everybody.”
Of course, being a wonderful friend (including being her grandmother’s best friend) is just a small part of who Chelsie is. While she is a mother hen who is always looking out for her friends, she is also the kind of individual who places her family on the pedestal. Her family means the absolute world to Chelsie, and she loves them all with all her heart.
“She is the glue that holds the family together,” Chad said. “She really is. She is hardworking and puts everyone ahead of her. She doesn’t always get the recognition she deserves. Sometimes at work; sometimes at home.”
Chelsie even sacrificed her nursing career for the good of their daughter, but she remains the hardest worker in the room no matter what her job is. She gives it her all and she is very much appreciated, and everyone in Chelsie’s life loves her with all their hearts.
“Everybody’s proud of her. Even if she doesn’t think she is doing a good enough job. Everybody is proud of her.” – Chad
