On February 15, SpongeBob fans celebrate Annoy Squidward Day. If you are unfamiliar with Squidward, he is a co-worker of SpongeBob who is always impatient, arrogant, condescending and feels unsatisfied.
This holiday was invented after the release of an episode called “Employee of the Month” in the late 90s. The “SpongeBob SquarePants” series is all about the adventure of SpongeBob and his buddies who live in the underwater city of Bikini Bottom together.
In the episode, the fictional character Squidward became annoyed by SpongeBob at work, therefore, he announced it is “Annoy Squidward Day.” After hearing this, SpongeBob annoyed Squidward even more by pointing out to the calendar and correcting him that this holiday is actually on February 15.
After that, many SpongeBob lovers started to celebrate this holiday in real life. Ever since the late 90s, the “SpongeBob SquarePants” became one of the longest-running shows on Nickelodeon.
In 2004, the first SpongeBob film came out. One year later, the second movie “Sponge Out of Water” was released. In 2020, the third one called “Sponge on the Run” has drawn many people’s attention.
Today, a lot of SpongeBob-related clothes, TV shows and comic books turn into successful media representations. An interesting fact about SpongeBob is that Former President Barack Obama even claimed that it’s his favorite cartoon character in 2007.
No matter how old you are, the SpongeBob series has given us so many laughs over the years. Without the presence of such a great comedy TV series, we would lose a great amount of fun times in our lives.
