If you’ve never met Winona Chambers, you’re missing out.
Winona Chambers, better known as Dee Dee to her family and so many others, is a truly special woman. She is a mother, a grandmother and a great grandmother, as well as a friend to many and someone that people enjoy being around.
“She is so kind to others and giving,” Dee Dee’s granddaughter Cassie said. “She treats everyone like family and makes you feel a part of the family even when you aren’t blood. She is funny and kind and loving and has a way about her that makes everyone feel at home.”
So what makes her so special? Well, for starters, she has spent a majority of her adult life holding down the fort at home. While her late husband was serving in the Marines, Dee Dee was often working multiple jobs while raising her two boys.
“She’s taught me sacrifice,” her younger son Bruce said. “She always gave, even when she didn’t have it to make sure her kids were okay and able to move forward.”
It was during this time that her sons also learned a lot from their mother. They learned not only the importance of sacrifice and always putting your family first, but also to treat others fairly. Dee Dee has always had a distinct ability to put others before herself, and this is something that is truly appreciated.
“She has taught me to always treat people nicely no matter who you are or what your differences are,” her older son Rob said.
Treating others fairly and kindly is important, but let’s go back to another point that makes Dee Dee so special. She is a family woman through and through, and she would do anything for her family.
From her kids to her grandkids to her great grandkids, Dee Dee’s love never wavers. She loves them so much and would do anything for them, and her family has always looked up to them for this very reason.
“Dee Dee means a lot to me,” her youngest grandson Alex said. “She helped raise me and cherished me when I was young. She also helped by letting us move into her home to allow me to play the sport I love.”
While there are times where she might not think her family notices all she has done for them, we are here to tell her that is far from the truth. Nothing that Dee Dee has done to love on her family is taken for granted.
She is everybody’s favorite grandma and Dee Dee for a reason, and her family is thankful for her.
“Dee Dee means the world to me,” Cassie said. “She is my favorite grandma. She has always supported me and everything I do. From the time I was little I can remember her coming to every event I had, supporting every fundraiser, every project, every life event. She always took time to spend with just me and made me feel like the most special little girl in the entire world.”
Dee Dee has always been present in her family’s lives, and that is something they love and cherish. They know that she always did everything she could to be at every event in their lives, and she was always cheering them on in every aspect of life.
She also loves all of her family members the same while treating them like individuals. Anytime any of them have ever needed anything, they knew they could count on Dee Dee to be there for them.
“Mom is someone who always gives no matter the circumstances,” Rob said. “Whether financially or just helping with our child.”
“Mom means everything to me,” Bruce added. “She has always been a part of my life, no matter what. From a young child to where I am today, she has always had some part in all of it.”
And now she gets to see the fruits of her labor coming to fruition each and every day. Both of her sons are married with a family, and her granddaughter has also brought two great grandsons into the world. Her family knew what it took to raise families of their own because of what they learned from Dee Dee, and that is something she should be proud of.
Dee Dee should also be proud of all the memories she has made with her family, from singing soothing songs to her grandchildren and great grandchildren to taking her boys to Ocean City every year since the day they were born. Her family has always looked up to Dee Dee and is appreciative of all she has done for them, and we look forward to continuing to make memories with her.
She is amazing and deserves to be honored for such.
