Tina Walker with her husband Adam Guilick on their wedding day

Tina Walker embraced the notion long ago that life will feature its fair share of battles and challenges, but she has also shown in every situation how far grace and perseverance can take her. In turn, she showed her two children, Adam (33) and Kim (31), how to handle the inevitable adversity they face, all while still making them her unquestioned top priority.

Tina is known in her family and beyond as a woman with a huge heart and a positive attitude to always keep pushing forward. Two of her most recent challenges included a battle with cancer and then COVID, which she fought and won without complaining or taking pity upon herself. Those are just two such examples of why her children admire her so much.

”She’s continued to keep a good attitude and maintain her trust in people, which has had a huge impact on me,” Adam said. “She taught me that it’s important to always present yourself with dignity and to keep going, because life is full of challenges and it’s important to deal with them.

“As a result, I’ve become a very resilient person because of her. She had to remain strong for my sister and I, so she’s someone I look up to in that regard.”

Tina has lived what she taught her son and is now a Mary Kay beauty consultant, married to her husband Drew, with two grandsons Carter (11) and Reshaun (9) who are now the light of her life. She spends her time reading, following the Phillies, and watching Star Trek and the full library of “Law and Order” series.

Drew and Tina met online, but he says it was evident early in the process of getting to know her that she was the one. He was drawn to her right away and their first day at Marconi’s all but sealed it.

Just like her kids, Drew has felt inspired by Tina to elevate his own game.

“She has a caring personality and a big heart,” Drew said. “She’s also a very understanding person. All of these qualities show that, even in tough times, it’s OK and important to still be a good person, do good things and care for others.”

That’s a good summary of the life Tina has led so far, where she has played the hand she was dealt and made as much of it as she could. She might not think of herself as an inspiration or role model for that, but those around her certainly took notice and hoped they could handle tough times the same way.

As her kids have gotten older, they have come to appreciate more and more how she worked, sacrificed and endured to give them the best life she could. Adam holds up two cross-country trips they made from Oregon to Pennsylvania, which were battles in their own right, as perfect examples of how imperfect experiences turned out to be beautiful memories.

Adam and Kim count themselves lucky that their mom was always there for them no matter what, and Adam vows to do the exact same for her.

“You’ve taught me how to be a better person and to carry myself in a positive way, no matter what happens,” he said. “I’ll always be there for you.”

The same is true for Drew and the lifetime of love that he can’t wait to share with her.

“No matter what happens in life, I will always love her until my dying day,” Drew said.
