Stand up to bullying (Anti-Bullying Week)

Post by Xiaotong Meng

November 14, 2022

Anti-bullying week often starts in the third week of November every year. It is a reminder of the long-term effects on a victim’s physical and mental health of bullying.

The U.K.’s National Children’s Bureau (N.C.B) and the National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty (N.S.P.C.C) observed the Anti-Bullying Alliance in 2002, in order to provide support as well as educate people about different types of bullying.

Two years later, the first anti-bullying week was held annually with a specific theme.

In 2017, the Anti-Bullying Association founded Odd Socks Day, starting on the first day of anti-bullying week. The purpose of this introduction was to bring diversity and inclusion while symbolizing the differences among one another.

From the week of November 14 to 18, it is the time for us to raise our voices, fight against intimidation, encourage zero-tolerance policy and pledge emotional support to those victims.

Writing is a bridge of communication from one generation to the next (I Love To Write Day)

Post by Xiaotong Meng

November 15, 2022

Writing is a true reflection of personal thoughts and feelings, which delivers the real meaning of life.

An author called John Riddle, from Delaware, wrote over 34 books and published lots of articles. He aspired to put one day aside for people to sit down and write, regardless their ages, jobs and identities.

In such a situation, Riddle launched I Love to Write Day on November 15.

Writings are very creative. It can be presented in a variety of forms, including fiction, non-fiction, novels, short poems, stories, essays and many more. It is a terrific practice for us to develop self-expression and improve our writing skills to a higher level.

Today, all you need is a pen and a piece of paper. You do not need to write a long article for a website or newspaper, just jot down your true feelings.

If you do not mind, you can also share it with your friends, and let them read your beautiful work.

Education support professionals, thank y’all for making our lives better (Education Support Professionals Day)

Post by Xiaotong Meng

November 16, 2022

When we think about education support, teachers are always the first to come to our minds. But have you noticed a lot of other staff members also contribute their efforts to lighten each child’s future?

They are hard working employees who are responsible for driving school buses, repairing school buildings, cleaning up classrooms and cooking lunch. Without their endless support, we cannot have such a comfortable environment to learn new knowledge.

Education Support Professionals Day was introduced on November 16 by the National Education Association (N.E.A).

Teaching a child is not an easy task, but many educators and workers are willing to dedicate their time to provide care for each student and ensure their safety at school.

We often ended up forgetting about those unsung influencers who are around us. Today is the best time to recognize and thank those education support professionals.

We can put up their pictures on school bulletin boards, share their stories on social media or leave a thank you note to them. The core of this holiday is to show appreciation for what education support professionals did for each child.

Education is the key to success (International Students Day)

Post by Xiaotong Meng

November 17, 2022

November 17 is International Students Day, remembering the significant contributions of thousands of students in Prague who fought for their rights to higher education under the Nazis.

In 1939, some students at Charles University in Prague formed an independent Czechoslovak Republic institution. However, the Nazis crushed their establishment and a student passed away.

Dozens of students were outraged by the death, so they created an anti-Nazi demonstartion. Unfortunately, the Nazis arrested over 1,200 students and sent them to concentration camps, yet many of them did not survive.

On November 17, the Nazis executed nine protesters without a formal trial; then this day turned into a national holiday to commemorate the courage of those student activists.

Today, the majority of young people have access to education, but there are still thousands of children who are struggling to go to school in many countries.

We should never take any privilege we own for granted.

Do not worry. You can take a trip back to Disneyland, the happiest place on Earth, to celebrate Mickey Mouse’s birthday on Nov 18.

Mickey Mouse, a famous cartoon character, first appeared in the short film “Steamboat Willie” on Nov 18, 1928. From then on, fans started to take this day as his birthday.

Mickey was also the first animated character who had a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

A little escapism in daily life never hurts anyone. While stress may drag us until the end of our lives, use every minute of today to have some fun by throwing a Mickey-themed party or going to Disneyland.
